I make this basic white loaf in my breadmaker all the time. I hope you have good success with this recipe as it has never let me down yet!

  1. Put all of the ingredients in bread machine in above order. I use a cycle on my machine that takes 3 hours and 20 minutes or you can use the timer mechanism.

What Are Some Bread Machine Recipes for a 1-Pound Loaf?

To make a basic 1-pound loaf of white bread in a bread machine, add 1 cup of room temperature water, 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter, 2 cups of bread flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of bread machine yeast to the machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer, and set the bread machine to the basic bread setting. Make raisin-nut bread by adding 1/4 cup raisins and 1/4 cup walnuts to this recipe.

To make a 1-pound loaf of honey wheat bread, place 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon of room temperature water, 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter, 1 tablespoon of honey, 3/4 cup of bread flour, 1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour and 2 teaspoons of bread machine yeast into the bread machine pan. Set the bread machine to the whole wheat cycle. For best results, remove the loaf of bread from the pan as soon as possible after baking, and cool it on a wire rack.

Make an Italian herb bread by adding 3/4 of a teaspoon each of marjoram, thyme and basil to the basic white or honey wheat recipe. Make a garlic bread by adding 2 teaspoons of garlic powder and 1 tablespoon of dried parsley to either basic recipe.

Country White Bread Recipe

There’s white bread and then there’s country white bread. So, what’s the difference? Country white bread is a white bread variation that is slightly sweeter with a lighter texture. This is due to the sugar volume and the addition of an egg.

It’s also a good recipe for dinner rolls which you can shape and finish in the oven. It’s wonderful when toasted and makes great French toast as well.

Add all the ingredients to the bread maker. Select the basic bread setting 1.5 pound loaf and medium crust.

If you’re going to use this recipe for dinner rolls select the dough cycle setting.

Once the dough cycle is complete, melt a couple of tablespoons of butter in your hands and shape the dough into 16 uniformly sized balls.

Cover and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes. Bake in a 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and serve.

Smell the yeast first, it should smell warm and yeasty. If it smells stale and musty, throw it out and start again with fresh yeast.

Bread won't rise [solved]

We've recently had a series of failures when making bread with our Panasonic breadmaker - the bread fails to rise and comes out like a house brick.

After reading this article, It seems highly likely that the cause is the yeast. As many people mentioned, the yeast seems to be the cause of this problem, even if it's within the sell-by date. A couple of extra clues: The failing yeast had a rather nasty smell, nothing like the pleasant yeasty smell. Also the bread tasted a little bit sweet, which it would if the yeast was not able to digest the sugar.

Another useful suggestion is to store the yeast in your fridge as it is a 'live' ingredient and it can be 'killed'.

Changing the yeast solved the problem. I may go back to sachet-packed yeast. We make fresh pizzas and fresh pittas at least once a week yet it seems a can of Allinson's yeast goes off before we can use it all up.

A standard white bread breadmaker recipe that is specific to the Panasonic SD253 breadmaker (and similar models).

Use menu 01 Basic bake (4 hours 5 minutes) on Panasonic SD-ZB2502 automatic breadmaker

It will almost certainly work for most breadmakers and is worth trying if you have lost your instruction book!

Medium loaf

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon dried active yeast
  • 400 g strong white flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 20 g butter
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 280 ml water - or by weight instead of volume, 280 g water

Large loaf

  • 1 teaspoon dried active yeast
  • 500 g strong white flour
  • 1.5 tablespoons sugar
  • 30 g butter
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 350 ml water

Extra large loaf

  • 1.5 teaspoons dried active yeast
  • 600 g strong white flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 40 g (1 oz) butter
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 420 ml water

Method

  1. Place the ingredients in your breadmaker, in the order shown
  2. Select Bake program (4 hours)
  3. Select menu 01 Basic bake (4 hours 5 minutes) on Panasonic SD-ZB2502 automatic breadmaker
  4. Select chosen crust option
  5. Select the appropriate loaf size to match the recipe [Medium, Large or Extra large]
  6. Rise and bake (4 hour cycle)

After you make a loaf of this Simple White Bread, you will make sure you have enough ingredients to at least double the recipe next time. And, it’s easy enough that your kids could help with the measuring and kneading of the dough. The only hard part about this recipe is the waiting to bake the loaf of bread. You do need to let the dough rest in the refrigerator overnight before baking it.

This basic white bread uses bread flour, which has more gluten than regular all-purpose flour. It helps to give the bread a better texture as it rises and bakes. If you would like to sneak in some whole grains, you can swap 1 cup of the flour with whole wheat flour or enjoy this recipe. Make sure the kneading blade(s) are properly attached, and add water to the baking pan.

Add flour, sugar, dry milk, salt and butter to the baking pan. Make a small indentation in the flour with a spoon, and place the yeast there. Make sure the yeast does not touch any liquid.

Place the baking pan in the Home Bakery, close the lid and plug the power cord into the outlet.

Select COURSE 1 for BB-PDC20 model the REGULAR BASIC setting for BB-PAC/CEC/BBCC-X20/V20 model or the BASIC BREAD - REGULAR setting for BB-HAC model, and crust control to the desired darkness. Press START.

When baking completes, press and hold the START/RESET or CANCEL button to turn off the Home Bakery. Take out the baking pan using oven mitts and gently shake the loaf out.


FAQs: Bread Machine Sandwich Bread

Can I use all milk?

Yes. If you don’t have half and half in the house, replace the amount called for with an equal amount of milk.

Can I use water?

You can but the loaf won’t be as soft or tasty.

Can I use oil instead of butter?

Yes. Bread made with oil lacks the buttery flavor that I find delightful but oil works.

I don’t have yeast. Can I use a combination of baking powder and lemon juice?

No. Sorry. This bread requires yeast.
